Come to the Every Artist Insured Seminar at The Bistro at Emma on November 12th at 1:30 pm. National expert Jim Brown will cover all Nashville area options for health insurance, especially the plans offered on the Marketplace, including premium costs, subsidies and other cost savings reductions, as well as government-sponsored programs for adults and children.  Detailed guidance will be given on the process of enrolling.  The information is presented by The Actors Fund, is unbiased and entirely independent of any private insurance company.  There will be ample time for questions both during and after the presentation.  Snacks and beverages will be available.

The Kent Museum opens its 2014 exhibition, "Reflections" on September 12.  Over 30 visual and literary artists muse literally and figuratively upon the concept of reflections.  Considering the actual return of light as inspiration or using internal thoughts as visual motivation are equal focuses of the show.  Through the use of reflective materials and highly polished surfaces or through manifest content such as mirrored imagery or conjured repetition, we hope to enlighten visitors on many levels by providing an overt look at how art reflects life as well as how images and forms of thought bounce back.

The Arts in Disaster

Artists and Arts organizations have significant and unique resources that can be leveraged in the recovery of communities, but, when directly impacted by disasters, they tend to fall through our existing safety nets. The arts readiness movement is in its infancy, but is already making major strides on preparedness, recovery, and community outreach. Craig Nutt, Director of Programs for CERF+ (Craft Emergency Relief Fund + Artists Emergency Resources) will give an overview of advances by the arts community since Hurricane Katrina and discuss ways to connect the arts to existing recovery efforts.


Asparagus Valley Pottery Trail Raffle

The Cape Ann Ceramics Festival will be hosting a viewing of "To Spring from the Hand, The Life and Work of Paulus Berensohn" at the Cape Ann Community Cinema on March 9th at 1:30 pm. Proceeds of ticket sales will be donated to CERF+.

The viewing is being presented by the Cape Ann Cermics Festival in association with the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck and seARTS. The Cape Ann Community Cinema is located at 21 Main St. in Gloucester, MA.


Benefit in A Booth

CERF+ will be hosting a Benefit in a Booth at the American Craft Coucil's Baltimore show. Participating exhibitors will be identifying a piece or pieces in their booth from which they will donate some or all of the proceeds to CERF+. In return, each participating artist will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of the two coveted half booth fee reimbursements generously donated by the American Craft Council (valued at up to $1,000 each) as well as other great prizes like hotel vouchers and restaurant gift certificates.

In conjunction with the craft exhibition “Full Circle: Vermont Artists Give Round a New Shape” CERF+ is hosting a Silent Auction of fine craft, generously donated by artists across the country, to benefit craft artists recovering from emergencies.  The show will take place at the Kent Museum in Calais, Vermont.  Hours are 10 – 5, September 28 – October 7 with an opening reception on Saturday, September 29 from 3:00 - 5:00 and a closing reception on October 7 also from 3:00 – 5:00.

To get to the Kent Museum from downtown Montpelier, take Main Street out of the round-about.  Travel up the hill past River Rock School (at the crest, the road turns sharply to the left).  Stay on this road (now County Road) for about 9 miles until you reach the village of Maple Corner.  Just before the pavement ends, turn right onto Kent Hill Road.  Travel half a mile to the first intersection.  The Kent Museum will be on your right.

The New Year has just begun, and coming up on February 10 and 11, in Vermont’s capital city, CERF+ will gather young and old together to craft tokens of love and friendship. Back by popular demand, CERF+ is planning its second annual have heART Valentine Making Fest.  As a way to engage the public in the lost art of creating work by hand, local artists will be available to both make custom valentines and assist visitors in creating their own.  CERF+ will also be selling artist-made valentines as a fundraiser.  That’s where you come in!

If you are interested in lending a hand by donating a Valentine to CERF+  just send one or more blank valentines of any size, shape or material to CERF+ (PO Box 838, Montpelier, VT 05601 or 28 Elm St. #2 Montpelier, VT 05602).  It will need to arrive at CERF+ no later than February 6. All valentines collected will be available for sale.  We hope you can spare a few moments to express the concept of love in whatever medium you like.  Many thanks! Craftsman House Gallery, in St. Petersberg, FL,  won the prestigious Niche Top Retailer Award for "Best Charitable Event in the U.S." for its annual Pot Roast - a charity pottery raffle for CERF+.  The gallery, cafe, & pottery studio was presented with one of only 17 national awards by NICHE.  This year's 7th Annual Pot Roast will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 4:00 pm.


Ephraim Pottery Auction to Benefit CERF+

Ephraim Pottery, of Lake Mills, WI, is currently running a fundraiser on ebay through Givings Works in support of CERF+.  Half the proceeds from the sale of the Giant Calla Lily will be donated to CERF+. This one-of-a-kind floor vase is one of the largest pieces ever created by Ephraim Pottery. Its size is perhaps equaled only by CERF+'s need for assistance this year. Hurricane Irene and flooding on the east coast have caused widespread devastation and requests for assistance have already begun to roll in. We hope you will consider bidding on this unique piece and help us raise funds for craftspeople in need. Thank you!
