CERF+ and Americans for the Arts Co-host Coalition Gathering on March 11
For the second year in a row, CERF+ along with Arts Advocacy Day on March 12 & 13, in Washington, DC. Entering its 20th consecutive year, Arts Advocacy Day is the only national event designed to bring together a broad cross-section of American’s national cultural and civic organizations to underscore the importance of developing strong public policies and appropriating increased public funding for the arts and culture. CERF+ especially urged members of Congress to Cosponsor S. 548, the "Artist-Museum Partnership Act," which allows artists to take a fair-market value deduction for contributions of their own works to nonprofit institutions.
CERF+ Board to Meet in Ocean Springs, Mississippi on May 6 & 7
The CERF+ Board will hold its spring board meeting at the Walter Anderson Museum in Ocean Springs, Mississippi on May 6 & 7. In addition to attending to its usual business, the CERF+ Board plans to meet with area artists and members of the cultural community to learn first-hand how recovery efforts are progressing.
Emergency Relief Update
February brought tornadoes to parts of Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. CERF+ contacted arts organizations and individual craft artists in the counties that were declared disaster areas. So far CERF+ has provided assistance to two New Orleans craft artists whose homes were impacted and is working with others who may require assistance. CERF+ relies on its media contacts to spread the word about the availability of its assistance so that it can reach the broadest number of artists.
CERF+ Fundraiser at the American Craft Show in Baltimore A Success
CERF+ raised over $7,300 at the American Craft Show in Baltimore from its annual booth fee raffle. Over 40 American Craft Council exhibitors participated by selling over 1,400 tickets to fellow exhibitors during the whole sale portion of the show. The winners of this year’s event were metals artist Ken Girardini and fiber artist Sally Dillon . They each will receive a reimbursement from the ACC of half their booth fee.
CERF+ Receives Major Gift from The Guild
The Guild, Inc, a leading retailer of fine art and craft, handcrafted home decor items and unique gifts presented a check for $12,436 to CERF+ at The American Craft Show in Baltimore on February 21. The donation was the result of The Guild’s pledge to contribute a portion of every sale from its Holiday 2006 "The Artful Home" catalog. Toni Sikes, CEO of The Guild, said. "We are honored to partner with CERF+, an organization that does so much to help artists in need."
CERF+ Receives Proceeds from Cyberclay Fundraiser at NCECA
At the March 13 opening reception of "Cyberclay: The First International Exhibit of Clayart, A Worldwide Internet Community of Clay Artists" at Galley Janjobe in Louisville, Kentucky an auction of one-of-a-kind platters raised $1,010 for CERF+. The event, held in conjunction with the annual conference of the National Council for Education in the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), featured refreshments served on platters donated by various artists to benefit CERF+.
