Emergency Relief in 2007: A Summary
The end of 2007 is at hand and to date, CERF+ has distributed over $120,000 in loans, grants and in-kind assistance to 45 craft artists throughout the United States who suffered career-threatening emergencies. This emergency relief aid is in addition to the information services, education and technical assistance that CERF+ provides to artists and organizations who serve artists. The financial assistance represents 33 grants (up to $5,000 each), twelve Quick Loans (up to $3,500 each), four Phoenix Loans (up to $8,000), and in-kind assistance, such as booth fee waivers, and discounts/donations from suppliers and manufacturers to thirteen craft artists. Approximately 30% of the emergency relief assistance in 2007 went to Gulf Coast craft artists as CERF+ continues to aid aid in the 2005 Hurricane Katrina recovery.
CERF+ Business Insurance Survey Nearing Completion
CERF+’s Business Insurance Survey has received a strong response from members of the Artist-Blacksmith’s Association of North America (ABANA), the Glass Art Society (GAS), and the Surface Design Association (SDA). As reported previously in CERF+e-news, members of The Furniture Society and the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) have also participated in the survey. The data collection phase will be completed by the end of January 2008 and the results will be reported in the late spring/early summer. The survey collects information about current business insurance practices in the craft field. It will assist those organizations in assessing their members’ business insurance needs as well as the feasibility of creating group business insurance plans.
