Good News For Seasoned Donors
Congress has passed legislation that allows donors to make charitable gifts directly from their IRA accounts during tax years 2008 and 2009 without incurring income tax on the withdrawal. If you are age 70½ or older and are required to take minimum withdrawals, this may be a great way to make an end of the year gift to CERF+. For more information, please contact Cornelia Carey via Email or call (802) 229-2306.
CERF+ Has Success at SOFA Chicago
CERF+ raised over $8,000 from its annual collection of miniature objects, A Tip of the Hat, at SOFA Chicago on November 9th. This year’s collection consisted of fourteen miniature hats and a custom hat rack built by Julie and Ken Girardini. Contributing artists included: Nancy Moore Bess, Kathleen Dustin, Jean Hicks, Gerri Johnson-McMillin, John Jordan, Jenny Pohlman and Sabrina Knowles, Ellen Kochansky, Marilyn Moore, Connie Norman, Carla Reiter, Betty Scarpino, Sylvia Seventy, Christina Shmigel, and Kiff Slemmons.
In addition to the raffle, CERF+ co-sponsored a panel discussion about the array of charitable opportunities in the craft field and hosted a VIP event at the CERF+ booth with former CERF+ Trustee and founding Director of the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery Lloyd Herman on collecting.
Artrider Supports CERF+
Artrider raised over $2,000 for CERF+ with their annual booth fee raffle at the Fall Crafts at Lyndhurst show in Tarrytown, N.Y. The lucky winner, Mona Adisa Brooks, received a refund of her booth fee for the show.
Craftproducers’ Silent Auction a Success
Nearly 100 exhibiting artists raised over $3,000 during a silent auction at the Stowe (VT) Foliage Arts Festival on October 11, 2008. The funds raised from this event organized by Craftproducers will go into a special fund in memory of Stephen and Graham Davidson for craft artists facing chronic illness or career-threatening injury.
Weather Radios While weather radios have been strongly promoted in “hurricane alley” and other areas that are prone to weather-related disasters, shifting weather patterns make this inexpensive warning system a good investment anywhere. An NOAA Public Alert™ certified radio activates automatically when a warning in your area is issued by the National Weather Service, even if the radio is turned off. This is especially important if you are asleep or working in the studio and not tuned to a local radio or television station that carries the alerts.
An AC unit with a battery back-up to cover in case of a power failure is recommended. CERF+ owns a Midland WR300 which currently retails between $45.00 – $50.00. Information about weather radios, including coverage maps for your state and where to purchase, is available at the National Weather Service website.
