Who We Are

Not only was CERF+ financially helpful when I really needed the support after Katrina, but they also stuck around to see how I was progressing in my career after the assistance. They really care!

The Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) was founded on a single simple premise: people caring for one another during tough times. Building upon the grassroots gesture of passing the hat at craft shows for artists dealing with emergency situations, CERF created an ongoing pool of funds that are available to professional artists working in craft disciplines when they suffer career-threatening emergencies. In addition to the financial assistance, we help acquire donated goods and services for beneficiaries from individuals, organizations and businesses.

In 2009, in recognition of our unique contribution to the crafts community, CERF received the annual Leadership Award from the Craft Organization Development Association.

After more than 20 years providing emergency relief, CERF added a new dimension to our work as a non-profit organization:   helping artists become more proactive in their approach to emergencies.   Now named CERF+, we are proud of our service to the crafts field and recognition as one of the country's leading "art responders."
